Campus Dining Services welcomes nutritionist Kristina (Tina) Tiernan, RD, as the newest member of their culinary team. Tina will be working closely with Campus Dining chefs to develop healthier menu choices in all dining locations as well as adding more variety to the vegan and vegetarian options available on campus.

“It’s all about finding nutritious foods that taste good and balancing that with foods to ‘splurge’ on from time to time,” said Tina. “Dining should be an enjoyable experience, and I want to teach students that there are many options that are healthy and taste good.”

In addition to providing free nutrition counseling to students at Stony Brook University, Tina also provides nutritional counseling to veterans at the Long Island State Veterans Home. Tina encourages students to contact her if they are interested in learning to eat healthier or if they need assistance with managing their special dietary needs or food allergies.

“I look forward to educating students on ways to eat healthier on campus and on making smart choices for everyday living,” said Tina. “As a dietitian, it’s my goal to help others recognize the benefits of this lifestyle and how good nutrition can impact our health and the way we feel.”

In addition to hosting weekly Cooking 101 demonstrations on Tuesday nights from 5 pm to 6 pm at the Stony Brook Union, Tina will be at several upcoming events including the Women’s Health and Wellness Expo on Tuesday, March 5, in the Student Activities Center (SAC) Ballroom B from 11:30 am to 3 pm and at the Campus Dining Nutrition Fair in the SAC lobby on Wednesday, March 13, from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm.

Tina earned her BS in Nutrition from the University of New Hampshire and secured her Registered Dietician certificate from the Stony Brook Dietetic Internship Program in the Department of Family Medicine.

For additional information about healthy cooking demonstrations or to contact Tina about any dietary or food allergy issues, email Kristina.Tiernan@stonybrook.edu or call her at (631) 632-9979.
