Tune in to CNN’s Emmy Award winning travel and food show Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown on Sunday, May 17, at 9 pm to find out what happens when the show’s host and Stony Brook University’s Patricia Wright participate in a Madagascar village ceremonial zebu sacrifice.

Bourdain, a world-renowned chef and bestselling author, travels around the world to uncover little-known destinations and diverse cultures. He was in Madagascar last December to film the show and visited Distinguished Service Professor Patricia Wright at the Centre ValBio research center that she founded and directs.

For the past few years Dr. Wright has been discussing with the local Madagascar community the possibility of transferring 45 acres of land into a community forest that would be protected and preserved for wildlife. Before transferring the land, the village elders had to sacrifice a zebu (a species of cattle) to entice their ancestors’ “blessing” for the land. The Madagascar episode features Anthony Bourdain and Dr. Wright participating in the ceremony.

“What a great pleasure it was to host Anthony and his Parts Unkown team in the communities where SBU has had a presence for over two decades,” said Dr. Wright. “Such international recognition helps to raise awareness and respect for the beautiful people and animals of this fragile country.”

Last year Dr. Wright won the prestigious Indianapolis Prize for Animal Conservation and the Wildlife Conservation Film Festival Lifetime Achievement Award.
