Stony Brook University is determined to defend its title as top recycler of electronic waste for the third consecutive year in Recyclemania 2015 — the annual, eight-week recycling competition among more than 400 colleges and universities that is under way now through March 28.
This year the University is building on its past successes — most notably in the “e-waste” categories, where SBU recycled more electronic waste than any other university in the nation in both 2013 and 2014. SBU needs your help again to retain its title and to finish as the top generator of recycling material in the “Gorilla” category, which ranks how much paper, bottles, cans and cardboard each university recycles.
As part of Stony Brook University’s Project 50 Forward initiative, the Records Management Project is contributing to RecycleMania by promoting the recycling of appropriate paper archives and related documents. Departments that want to participate can find guidance on retention requirements, shredding and record archiving on the Record Management website.
Recycling & Resource Management and the Office of Sustainability are providing receptacles for office cleaning and offering pickup of e-waste and complimentary confidential paper shredding during February and March. To participate in RecycleMania 2015, please request recycling services using the Fix It system. For more information, please contact Recycling & Resource Management at (631) 632-4640 or via email at recycling@stonybrook.edu.
The University community can help reduce the campus’ carbon footprint by living sustainably and choosing to recycle. A full list of what can be recycled and other sustainable tips can be found on the Recycling & Resource Management website.
