Award-winning filmmaker Lauren Wolkstein, a mentor for Stony Brook Southampton’s 20/20/20 Intensive in Digital Filmmaking, discusses the intensive program in Filmmaker magazine. Legendary indie film producer Christine Vachon from Killer Films directs the graduate-level 20/20/20 program at Southampton, providing hands-on instruction along with award-winning producer Pamela Koffler, who co-founded Killer Films with Vachon.
The program is part lecture series, part development workshops — with visiting filmmakers such as Wolkstein acting as mentors — and part production boot camp. During the 20-day summer portion of the program, students write, shoot and edit their own short films.
“My role is to mentor the students through pre-production, production and post-production in three weeks during the summer working side by side with Christine and two very experienced production specialists,” said Wolkstein in the article. “By the end of the boot camp, they will know every role on a film shoot very well, which in turn will make them better directors.”
Wolkstein was named one of the “25 New Faces of Independent Film 2013” in Filmmaker magazine.
