Two SPD Faculty Honored for Decades of Service

Pdkl notext 1

pdkl_notextPaul Edelson, Dean of the School of Professional Development (SPD), and Robert Moraghan, Director of the Educational Leadership Programs, have both been named as Friends of Education by Phi Delta Kappa. This award is given each year to those who have served the field of public education in a manner far beyond others.

The selection committee noted in their announcement that while they were overwhelmed with the number of extraordinary nominees this year, there was no question that Edelson and Moraghan should be chosen to be awarded this honor in recognition of the standard of excellence they exhibit in educating the educators and administrators of our public schools.

From the nomination letters:

“Every day of his life Dr. Edelson exemplifies the philosophy and the skills that great educators should have. He inspires, he takes tough positions and fights for them, particularly when students benefit, and he will not ever forgive fraudulence or expediency in faculty, staff, or students.”

“Bob never thinks of himself without thinking of what he may do to benefit others, particularly the unsung heroes of our society, the teachers and administrators that toil daily in the field of public education.”

A Phi Delta Kappa Friends of Education Awards Ceremony and Celebration Dinner will be held to honor Edelson and Moraghan on Friday, April 30, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the Charles B. Wang Center. The cost is $45 (payable to PDK at Stony Brook University). Please RSVP with payment to Geraldine Sullivan Keck, PDK at SBU President, 11 Diploma Place, Setauket, NY 11733.
