With summer on the way, United States Congressman Lee Zeldin (R-Shirley) (right) met with Ya Wang, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (center) and Jeffrey Ge, PhD, professor and interim department chair, for an update on Dr. Wang’s research on air conditioning vents capable of 30 percent energy savings. The vent would be able to control airflow distribution, velocity, and temperature in both commercial and residential settings.
Dr. Wang is funded through a $2,049,260 three-year grant from the US Department of Energy’s (DOE) Advanced Research Projects (ARPA-E). Stony Brook University is only one of three institutions in New York State to receive the award. The DOE states that ARPA-E funded projects have the potential to readily improve US economic prosperity, national security and environmental well-being.
