Each year, the Student Employee and Supervisor of the Year Awards, hosted by Stony Brook’s Career Center, recognizes stellar student employees and supervisors for their hard work and dedication.

“Student Employment and Intern of the Year awards has been an amazing way to recognize the work students across campus provide for academic and administrative departments for the university and the support to Stony Brook Medicine,” remarked Tara Bolettieri, student employment specialist. “It was great to see this event return back to an in-person format this year, bringing together students, faculty and staff to celebrate this exciting event.”
The Student Employment program from the Career Center presents students and their supervisors with resources and support to provide students with experiential learning and development opportunities to prepare students for productive and successful careers.
The first place Graduate Grand Prize winner was Devon Hannan, graduate assistant at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI); Intern of the Year was awarded to Dylan Rehman, intern at the Career Center; and the Undergraduate Grand Prize winner was Sophie Pesano, student assistant at Athletics.
Students were honored to be recognized for their work by their supervisors and peers. “It was such an honor to receive the Intern of the Year award,” said Rehman. “The entire Career Coaching Intern Team makes showing up and giving 100 percent a no brainer, and being a part of such an amazing team was the true award.”
Pesano’s outstanding work was also acknowledged at a national level as one of the top student employees in the country by the National Student Employment Association. She received a $250 check as well as recognition certificates.
The Supervisor of the Year award was presented to John Shackelford, lead programmer and analyst for Student Health and Wellness. He was nominated by his student employee, Faye Valmores.
