
Stony Brook University’s Joanna Fowler is part of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Women @ Energy series, a collection of more than 100 profiles of the brilliant and talented female professionals across the nation that contribute to the work of the DOE. Women @ Energy was launched in March 2013 by the DOE’s Office of Economic Impact and Diversity, which strives to address the underrepresentation of women in STEM fields through sharing an inside look at just how exciting work in STEM can be and to inspire others to join this growing field.
Fowler is an adjunct professor in Stony Brook University’s departments of Chemistry and Biomedical Engineering. She also works in the Biosciences Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory as a senior chemist and as director of Brookhaven’s PET Program. She is the recipient of many honors and awards, including the National Medal of Science from President Barack Obama. She has numerous professional appointments, and is a member of the American Chemical Society, the Society of Nuclear Medicine, the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology and the Society for Neuroscience.
