
The Friends of Ashley Schiff Park Preserve will host its fourth annual Membership Reception on Thursday, September 24, at the Simons Center Cafe from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, featuring a talk and book signing by Carl Safina, inaugural holder of the Carl Safina Endowed Research Professorship for Nature and Humanity at Stony Brook University‘s School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (SoMAS). He also co-chairs and teaches in the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook.
Undergraduate scholarships will be awarded and several members of the community will be recognized for their contributions. Awardees include Distinguished Service Professor Malcolm Bowman, SoMAS; Distinguished Service Professor Gil Hanson, Department of Geosciences; and Distinguished Professor Daniel O’Leary and Professor Emeritus Susan O’Leary, Department of Psychology. The awards ceremony will be preceded by a wine and cheese reception. The event is free, but donations are gratefully accepted. The 26-acre Ashley Schiff Park Preserve on campus was dedicated in memory of Stony Brook Professor Ashley Schiff in 1970.
