The University’s 40 Under Forty website — dedicated to Stony Brook’s alumni recognition program that celebrates our best and brightest young graduates — has received an Education Standard of Excellence award from the Web Marketing Association’s 2015 WebAwards. Now in its 19th year, the WebAward competition for website development is recognized as the premier industry-based website award program in the world.
The site was created by Stony Brook Communications and Marketing team members Lynn Zawie, web production coordinator; Joshua Palmeri, web developer; and Loren Moss-Meyer, web designer; in conjunction with Jessie McHeffey, advancement communications associate.
“This is an outstanding example of collaborative excellence,” said Jacob Levich, director of University Web Content and interim editorial director. “The web team of the Office of Communications and Marketing worked closely with key stakeholders to create a user-friendly site with plenty of visual impact.”
More than 1,500 entries from 40 countries were judged in 96 industry categories during this year’s competition. Entries were judged on design, copy writing, innovation, content, interactivity, navigation and use of technology. The competition was judged by a team of independent Internet professionals representing a variety of relevant disciplines of website development. Judges included members of the media, advertising executives, site designers, creative directors, corporate marketing executives, content providers and webmasters.
“Website design is constantly evolving to better meet the needs of the online audiences,” said William Rice, president of the Web Marketing Association. “This year the WebAwards competition received remarkable entries from around the world that show impressive creativity and functionality. We congratulate all of our winners for developing websites that deliver for their audiences.”
The Web Marketing Association was founded in 1997 to help set a high standard for Internet marketing and development of the best websites. Staffed by volunteers, this organization is made up of Internet marketing, online advertising, PR, and top website design professionals who share an interest in improving the quality of online advertising, Internet marketing and website promotion. The WebAward program is the longest running annual website award competition dedicated to naming the best websites in 96 industries while setting the standard of excellence for all website development.
