The University has issued a statement of thanks to Senator Schumer, Congressman Zeldin, and members of the New York State Congressional Delegation for their tireless efforts on our behalf. The statement reads as follows:
The impact of COVID-19 upon Stony Brook University is profound. As we continue to work together to secure critical resources for New York to combat COVID-19, the University is grateful to Senator Chuck Schumer for working tirelessly to provide $20 million in relief funding to help our campus community during this time of need.
Additionally, we would like to acknowledge Congressman Lee Zeldin for relentlessly advocating on our behalf to obtain face masks, PPE kits and other crucial supplies for Stony Brook Medicine healthcare workers and essential personnel on the frontlines of the University.
Stony Brook University is also appreciative that Senator Schumer, Congressman Zeldin and members of the New York State Congressional Delegation focused their efforts and were able to secure at least $15.9 billion in direct federal aid for New York in the latest COVID-19 relief bill. We will continue to work closely with our federal elected officials to obtain the funding and resources necessary to provide relief to our students, researchers, faculty, staff, and to Stony Brook Medicine.
