The 2020 Census is rapidly approaching, and your help is needed to make sure Long Island gets its fair share of the more than $678 billion in annual federal funding. Census data drives decisions on the region’s health insurance, school funding, roadways and much more. Unfortunately, Suffolk and Nassau rank 4th and 5th respectively on the New York State list of Hard-to-Count counties. An undercount will have a negative impact for the next 10 years.
The SBU 2020 Census Complete Count Committee is being formed. We are seeking individuals, departments and organizations from the campus community interested in helping to raise awareness of the Census and to encourage participation. We are looking to have a coordinated campus outreach plan with input from all points of campus.
Meetings will begin in November 2019. Please contact Joan Dickinson, Community Relations Director, at Joan.Dickinson@stonybrook.edu for more information or to join the committee.
