Jazz Loft Grand Opening in Stony Brook Village, May 21

The jazz loft

The grand opening of The Jazz Loft, a first-of-its kind venue, will take place in Stony Brook Village on Saturday, May 21, with a multitude of events throughout the day, including The Jazz Loft Big Band featuring acclaimed NY Voices vocalist Lauren Kinhan.

The memorabilia housed at The Jazz Loft is astounding and includes thousands of archives from some of the greatest Jazz musicians of their day. On display are instruments, diaries, autographed pictures, original sheet music, letters from world leaders, vintage LPs and even an orchestra stage constructed from the original Roseland Ballroom dance floor.

Given the mission of The Jazz Loft to advocate, educate and preserve this American-born art form, the future of The Jazz Loft will include a full calendar of musical performances as well as classes for special needs people with autism, learning disabilities, dementia and Alzheimer’s.

The festivities planned for the day include a 2 pm “Great Day in Stony Brook” kick-off parade from the Ward Melville Heritage Organization’s Educational & Cultural Center (the original site of Dogwood Hollow, a 2,000-seat amphitheater where Ward Melville hosted the likes of Louis Armstrong and other jazz greats) to The Jazz Loft.  A ribbon-cutting ceremony will follow.

Enjoy live music and refreshments from 3 to 5 pm; tickets are $25 for adults; $20 for seniors; $15 for students; and children 12 and under are free.

The celebration continues with two live shows featuring The Jazz Loft Big Band with Lauren Kinhan, one at 7 pm and one at 9:30 pm. Each show includes a buffet dinner, and tickets are $90 per person.

The Jazz Loft is located at 275 Christian Avenue, Stony Brook. For tickets and information visit thejazzloft.org or call (631) 751-1895.
