Wolfstock 2017: Seawolves Take the Win After a Week of Homecoming Fun

Court2017 2

Stony Brook welcomed a record number of Seawolves fans and University alumni back to campus for our annual homecoming tradition, Wolfstock — a week full of great events capped off with one big football win at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.

Seawolves Beat New Hampshire, 38-24

Saturday afternoon, the Seawolves took out the visiting New Hampshire Wildcats 38-24 in front of a record crowd of 12,311 for the homecoming matchup at LaValle Stadium.

The win over No. 12 UNH marked the second–highest ranked win in Division I program history, putting the Seawolves’ season record at 4-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Junior running back Donald Liotine scored a pair of rushing touchdowns, while senior running back Stacey Bedell tallied 157 yards on the ground, including a 63-yard touchdown run.

Stony Brook’s defense forced three turnovers and held the Wildcats to negative 10 rushing yards, led by defensive back Gavin Heslop with a career-best nine tackles, including his first career sack and forced fumble.

“I’m really proud of this team,” said Stony Brook Head Coach Chuck Priore. “Our guys took this personally and showed it tonight. They did a tremendous job. Each and every one of them — our coaching staff and the players — for what they did.”

Wolfstock Village Brings the Stony Brook Community Together

More than 2,300 students, faculty, staff, alumni, fans, friends and family members got together before the big game for good food and fun activities at Wolfstock Village.

Attendees enjoyed festival food favorites, interactive demonstrations by several University clubs, live music from Radio Riot, performances by the Stony Brook Pipettes and Belly Dancers, a special performance by the Stony Brook Marching Band, and plenty of inflatable rides and games.

“This years’ Wolfstock was one of the most energetic homecoming weeks we’ve had in years. Joining forces with Athletics and merging Seawolves Town, the Seawolves weekly tailgate experience, with Wolfstock Village made for an inclusive and fun experience for our alumni, students, parents, friends and fans alike,” said Executive Director of Alumni Relations Matthew Colson. “By bringing back live music, making Wolfstock Village free to enter, and creating a build-your-own experience with food and ticket options, the festival-like atmosphere drew record crowds of over 2,300 members of our beloved Stony Brook Community.”

Seawolves Showcase and Student Events Boost Campus Spirit

Homecoming Court Creative Explosion wasn’t the only student event to rock Wolfstock.

Students, faculty and staff got their Seawolves spirit in gear at the Homecoming Hoopla and Carnival along the Academic Mall on Wednesday afternoon.

Then on Friday night, the smash-hit Seawolves Showcase brought several talented student groups to the outdoor stage on the Staller Steps to entertain thousands of students before the game on Saturday.

“Wolfstock encourages the Stony Brook community to come together and celebrate pride in what it means to be a Seawolf,” said Interim Associate Dean of Students Jeffrey Barnett. “Tradition and spirit comes alive during Wolfstock week, thanks in part to the tremendous displays of student talent, support and Seawolves spirit.”

The Homecoming Court Winners Are Crowned

After a spirited competition during the Homecoming Court Creative Explosion on Thursday night, Stony Brook students voted and crowned our 2017 Homecoming Court Winners.

Congratulations to Veronica Fox ‘18 and PP Pandya ‘18 on becoming Stony Brook royalty!

Alumni Events Bring Graduates Back to Campus

Several events organized by Alumni Relations encouraged Stony Brook grads of all generations to return to campus during Wolfstock week, reunite with classmates and faculty and celebrate being a Seawolf.

More than 2,500 alumni and friends in total attended all the events, including Wolfstock Village, the Black and Latino Alumni Network’s Multicultural Brunch, the Crew Team’s Alumni Breakfast and Row, Carl Safina’s Faculty Lecture titled “The Ocean and You,” and Assistant Professor Nick Nikiforakis Engineering Computer Science Lecture titled “Why Hack When You Can Scam?”
