The University Orchestra will present its annual Family Concert on Tuesday, February 26, at Staller Center’s Main Stage at 7:30 pm. Conductor Susan Deaver leads the Orchestra in a one-hour interactive concert that includes a kaleidoscope of orchestral music. The Family Concert is a perfect experience for the whole family.
The featured soloist is 16-year-old violinist Daniella Greene, winner of the 2012 Stony Brook University Precollege Concerto Competition. Greene, a junior at Hampton Bays High School, will perform the first movement of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto with the University Orchestra. Also included in the concert are festive orchestral excerpts from Stravinsky’s Petrushka, Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Procession of the Nobles, and a select chamber orchestra performing Vivaldi’s Concerto Grosso in D minor.
Tickets are $10 general admission and $5 for students and seniors; they are on sale at the Staller Center Box Office, which can be reached at (631) 632-ARTS. For more information about the University Orchestra, contact the Department of Music at (631) 632-7330 or visit www.stonybrook.edu/music.
