See the Department Theatre Arts’ presentation of Shakepeare’s comedy “As You Like It” at Staller Center April 14 through April 17. The Stony Brook adaptation, directed by John Lutterbie and Amy Cook, features cutting-edge innovative technology and pop music to tell an updated story of love and gender dynamics.
“We are a research-driven university, so it stands to reason that our Theatre Arts Department is also research driven,” said Department Chair John Lutterbie. “The themes that Shakespeare uses are timeless, but sometimes the language makes those ideas less accessible to our students. Our script has been updated through workshops with students, so it speaks their language audibly and visually in many different ways. It is a comedy in blank verse — that’s what Shakespeare is — but that doesn’t mean it isn’t going to be funny. It is!”
Performances are Thursday through Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2 pm.
