The Yellowjackets, a renowned jazz-fusion quartet with more than 20 albums in their discography, will play the Staller Center Recital Hall on Saturday, January 29, at 8:00 pm.
Their recent tour of Japan included The Symphony Hall in Osaka, and following their concert at Staller Center, the group’s itinerary includes a week at the Blue Note in New York City.
The Yellowjackets are Russell Ferrante, keyboard; Jimmy Haslip, bass; Will Kennedy, drums; and Bob Mintzer, sax. Ferrante and Haslip are original members of the group. Kennedy was the group’s drummer from 1986 to 1998 and has returned to The Yellowjackets this year. Mintzer is also a long-time member of the group and leader of his own big band.
The Yellowjackets’ first album was released in 1981. They have recorded with Warner Brothers and others, and have received numerous Grammy nominations. The group recently signed with Mack Avenue Records at the 2010 Detroit International Jazz Festival.
