The Stony Brook Graduate Piano Department presents its tenth annual Piano Project in Staller Center’s Recital Hall on Wednesday, March 23, with performances at 12:00 pm, 4:00 pm, and 8:00 pm. There will be a discussion panel at 7:00 pm and a reception with light refreshments following the final concert.
The Piano Project is a collaboration among more than 25 pianists to put together a three-concert marathon with nearly 300 minutes of music oriented around a single theme. This year’s theme is “From the Street to the Salon: The Irresistible Influence of Folk Music on Concert Music,” with works including transcriptions of actual folk melodies and works inspired by folk music.
The 12:00 pm concert will feature music from Western Europe and Asia, with the 4:00 pm concert showcasing Russia and Eastern Europe, and the 8:00 pm concert concluding with music from the Americas and Hungary.
Admission is free. For more information, please visit www.stonybrookpianoproject.org or contact the Stony Brook Department of Music at (631) 632-7330.
