Bollywood Masala Orchestra and Dancers of India will perform at Staller Center on Friday, November 13, at 8 pm. “The Spirit of India” features 17 musicians and dancers who take the audience on a musical journey from Rajasthan to Mumbai.
In the two-act performance, Indian percussion instruments — the khartal, tabla and dholak — will be heard along with Western instruments rarely used together. The full orchestra accompanies female dancers in a song from the 2007 film Om Shanti Om. Other Bollywood songs in the show include “Dil Na Diya” from the 2006 film Krrish and “Khwaja Mere Khwaja,” a song celebrating the deeds of a Sufi Saint from the 2008 film Jodhaa Akbar. Other highlights include a Bhavai Dance with a display of daredevilry that includes standing on swords and fire-breathing as well as a snake charming dance.
Tickets are $42 general admission and $21 for children age 12 and under. Order tickets online at www.stallercenter.com or call the Staller Center Box Office at (631) 632-ARTS. The Box Office is open for sales Monday through Saturday, from 12 pm to 6 pm and one hour before performances.
