Karina Smirnoff from “Dancing with the Stars” and Ben Hyland from Marley and Me, along with Ralph Macchio, writer, director and producer of the 25-minute short, Across Grace Alley, took the stage at Staller Center for a lively Q&A after the Opening Night screening at Stony Brook University on July 17. The film was warmly received for its sensitive treatment of a young boy’s struggle with his parent’s divorce.
Smirnoff made her acting debut in the film, and Marsha Mason, four-time Oscar nominee, played the boy’s grandmother. Ben Hyland, 12, is now working on the television show, “The Strain.” Crew attending the screening of the poignant coming-of-age story included Wolfgang Held, director of photography; Eric Kaye, composer; and Amy Williams, production designer.
Following the U.S. premiere of Kilian Riedhof’s German film, Back on Track, the filmmakers and patrons attended an Opening Night party held at the Charles B. Wang Center.
