Jean Hanff Korelitz, whose novel Admission was adapted for a 2013 film with the same title directed by Paul Weitz and starring Tina Fey, Paul Rudd and Lily Tomlin, will be the first guest in the fall Writers Speak Wednesdays series of free author talks and readings open to the public at Stony Brook Southampton. Korelitz will speak on Wednesday, September 25, at 7 pm in the Radio Lounge on the second floor of Chancellors Hall.
On Saturday, September 21, the film based on Korelitz’s novel, Admission, will be screened at 7 pm in Duke Lecture Hall on the first floor of Chancellors Hall as part of the fall Semester by the Sea Movie Night series.
Korelitz is also the author of The White Rose, The Sabbathday River, and A Jury of Her Peers, as well as a forthcoming novel, You Should Have Known, to be published in early 2014. She has also written a novel for children, Interference Powder, and a collection of poetry, The Properties of Breath. Her non-fiction has appeared in various anthologies and in such publications as Vogue, Real Simple, Reader’s Digest and The New York Times.
Born and raised in New York City and educated at Dartmouth College and Clare College, Cambridge, she lives in Princeton, New Jersey, with her husband, Irish poet Paul Muldoon, and their children.
Other writers scheduled for the series include Marissa Silver, October 2; Megan Daum, October 9; Eric Fischl, October 23; Dwight Garner interviewed by former New Yorker fiction editor Dan Menaker, October 30; and Richard Howard, November 13.
On December 4, the evening will be devoted to readings by “the stars of tomorrow,” students enrolled in the MFA in Creative Writing and Literature program.
Writers Speak Wednesdays programs are free and open to the public. All readings begin at 7 pm in the Radio Lounge on the second floor of Chancellors Hall at Stony Brook Southampton, 239 Montauk Highway.
