Stony Brook alum Chris Vivas is featured in an art exhibit at Gallery North in Setauket. “Three Perspectives: Eleanor Berger, Nancy Bueti-Randall, and Chris Vivas” is on display now through Sunday, February 14.

Vivas studied English and studio art at Stony Brook, with an emphasis in ceramics, which led to a studio artist in residence at the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park in Japan. Upon his return to the United States, he began exploring wood firing while working as the artist in residence at Stony Brook’s Craft Center. Influenced by existential writers such as Camus, Nietzsche, and Sartre, Vivas pursued his interest in the concepts of fragility and strength, receiving his M.F.A. in ceramics at SUNY New Paltz. He now lives on Long Island, where he continues to explore the ceramic medium.

The opening reception will be held Friday, January 15, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Gallery North is located at 90 North Country Road, Setauket.
