
Tony Award winner Brian Stokes Mitchell brings his dazzling new show “Simply Broadway” to the Staller Center Main Stage on Saturday, November 22, at 8 pm. Accompanied by the superb Tedd Firth on piano, he will cover Broadway classics to current hits, making every song a show stopper. USA Today named the CD version of “Simply Broadway” one of the best albums of 2013. The New York Times has called Brian Stokes Mitchell “The Last Leading Man.”
Brian Stokes Mitchell’s Broadway career includes leading roles in Man of La Mancha, Kiss Me Kate, Ragtime and King Hedley II. Some know him from his early television roles in Trapper John, MD, or more recently, from TV episodes of Glee. This spring he performed as King Arthur in Camelot for a one-night-only gala concert at the Kennedy Center. This summer he had the role of Don Pedro in New York City’s popular Shakespeare in the Park production of Much Ado about Nothing. Just before appearing at Staller Center, he takes the stage in City Center Encores! as the lead in The Band Wagon, based on the classic 1953 movie that starred film legend Fred Astaire. And for the 2014 holiday season, Stokes will be touring with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra performing holiday favorites in various U.S. cities. His work for numerous charitable organizations has continued throughout his career, and he has been Chairman of the Board of the Actor’s Fund for ten terms.
