Annual Children’s Concert March 13

The Annual Children’s Concert, “Masquerade,” will be presented at Staller Center on Tuesday, March 13, at 8:00 pm by the University Orchestra with conductor Susan Deaver.  This program features sixth grade pianist Lawrence Lan, winner of the 2011 Stony Brook University Pre-College Division Concerto Competition, who will perform the first movement of Schumann’s Piano Concerto. Other music selections include excerpts from Phantom of the Opera and other classical and popular tunes associated with carnivals and costumes. Audience members are encouraged to wear masks to the concert and be a part of the celebration.

About Lawrence Rui Lan
Lawrence was born in Chicago on January 31, 2000, and now lives in East Setauket, New York. He is a sixth grader in the intellectually gifted program at William Sidney Mount School. Lawrence started playing piano by self-learning on a digital keyboard when he was four and a half years old. He studies piano with Ms. Rowena Sanchez Arrieta and was a semifinalist at the 2011 International Piano Competition, sponsored by the Leschetizky Association of New York.  Lawrence is also studying cello with Ms. Tomoko Fujita.
