The University Orchestra will present its annual Family Orchestra Concert on Tuesday, March 6, on Staller Center’s Main Stage at 7:30 pm. The orchestra will perform this one-hour interactive concert, “Adventures in Orchestral Music,” with conductor Susan Deaver.  The featured soloist is violinist Mariana Knaupp, winner of the 2017 Stony Brook University Young Artists Program Concerto Competition. Mariana, who is high school student in Huntington, will perform the first movement of Bruch’s Violin Concerto in G minor with the orchestra.

The concert also includes pieces that adventurously showcase the orchestra, including Glinka Overture to Ruslan & Ludmilla, Copland Ho-Down from Rodeo, Dvorak Slavonic Dance No. 2 in E minor, Ginastera Danza from Estancia, Holst Jupiter from The Planets and John Williams Star Wars Epic Part II. The evening’s concert will feature strings, brass, woodwind and percussion sections of the University Orchestra, which includes more than 70 undergraduate students from the University.

Tickets are $5 for this year’s Family Concert, and are on sale at the Staller Center Box Office or by calling (631) 632-ARTS.
