Tara L. Huston, MD ’01
Tara L. Huston, M.D., hails from Garden City, N.Y. She attended Harvard College and graduated with a degree cum laude in Biochemical Sciences. Dr. Huston returned to Long Island to obtain her medical degree with Distinction in Research from the SUNY Stony Brook SOM in 2001. She was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Medical Society, the Pathology Honor Society, and was awarded the Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Achievement Citation.
After medical school, Dr. Huston completed a residency in general surgery at The New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center. She then completed a residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Cornell and Columbia campuses of New York Presbyterian Hospital, with additional time spent at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Hospital for Special Surgery. Based on her outstanding clinical and leadership skills, Dr. Huston served as Chief Administrative Resident during her final year of training.
Dr. Huston is double board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Huston distinguished herself during surgical training by authoring over twenty articles in peer reviewed journals and eight book chapters, and she has traveled extensively to present her work. Her research focuses on novel surgical treatments for breast cancer, including nipple-sparing mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. During her training, Dr. Huston received distinctions from the New York Regional Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Weill Cornell Medical College Alumni Council, and The New York Presbyterian Hospital.
In 2011, Dr. Huston returned to Stony Brook as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Her practice encompasses a broad range of aesthetic and reconstructive surgery, with special attention to the face, breast and body. This includes breast/facial reconstruction after cancer, breast reduction, breast lift, breast augmentation, facelift, eyelid surgery, treatment of facial fractures, reconstruction after burn injury, body contouring following massive weight loss, liposuction, and non-surgical cosmetic enhancements utilizing autologous fat, toxins, and fillers.
Dr. Huston is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, Association of Women Surgeons, the New York Regional Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Northeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the Committee of Admissions at the Stony Brook School of Medicine.
Dr. Huston lives in Stony Brook, N.Y. with her husband Dr. Jared M. Huston, M.D., FACS, Stony Brook SOM Class of 2001, an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Hofstra-North Shore LIJ School of Medicine, and their three children.
