On Tuesday, May 3, nearly 100 students, alumni, and their families took part in a celebrated Stony Brook tradition: the annual class ring ceremony.

Throughout the ceremony, guests heard from Stony Brook University Alumni Association President Robert Stafford ’72, ’82, senior class senator Drazen Bacarra ’16 and Balfour ring representative Bonnie Shapiro as they learned more about the Alumni Association and received congratulatory wishes.

Timothy Ecklund, PhD, Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, shared the stage to present participants with their ring boxes, announcing when it was finally time to end the mystery and reveal the custom-made treasures inside. In one joyous wave of emotion, participants opened their boxes and saw their rings for the very first time.

Some number of smiles, happy tears (and selfies) later, the participants gathered for a group photo to commemorate the occasion — leaving them with one more timeless keepsake representing their commitment and pride.

The official class ring is a symbol of eternal affiliation with the University and is recognized by Stony Brook alumni worldwide. Learn more about it here.
