2000 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient

Robert Sandhaus, MD graduated from Stony Brook’s School of Medicine in 1976. Dedicating his career to helping others, Dr. Robert Sandhaus has proved to be a valuable contributor to the scientific community. His area of study has focused on alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency (AIAD), and “a genetic clue” that links emphysema to possible causes.

In March of 2000, he was named Executive Vice President and Medical Director of Alpha One Foundation (a not-for-profit Florida corporation that aims to control and cure AIAD and to improve the quality of life for those with the disorder). There, he continues to work in a field in which he has proved himself indispensable.

It is a privilege of Stony Brook University School of Medicine to recognize him as a 2000 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient.
