Rare Surgery on Local Child Makes Headlines

Stony Brook Medicine is in the spotlight after a unique surgery performed by Dr. Fazel Khan and his colleagues made a world of difference for a Long Island girl. A Van Ness Rotationplasty used Delaney Unger’s ankle to create her new knee, making it possible for her to keep dancing following treatment for osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer that has only 500-1000 new cases each year.
