Public Policy Alumni Network and Alumni Association Host Panel Discussion

“Jobs, Transportation and Housing on Long Island: Crafting a Sustainable Future” brought together alumni and students in the Public Policy program, as well as members of the Stony Brook University community to hear from a panel of industry experts. Panelists discussed the availability of housing options for young professionals in the region, as well as obstacles to building obtainable housing. Attendees learned about what local stakeholders are doing to nurture job availability and hear about the ways the region can provide young alumni professional with economically viable employment opportunities.

The event was held on Thursday, April 6 and was a collaborative effort organized with the Stony Brook Public Policy Network, the Stony Brook Alumni Association and the Masters in Public Policy Program. The panel discussion was led by Richard Murdocco ’10, chapter leader of the Public Policy Alumni Network and president of The Foggiest Idea. Panelists included:

  • Robert J. Coughlan, Co-Founder, TRITEC Real Estate
  • Patricia Malone ’05, Executive Director, Corporate Education and Training and the Advanced Energy Training Center
  • Elisa Picca ’85, Executive Vice President, Long Island Railroad
  • Mayor Paul V. Pontieri Jr., Village of Patchogue

Panelists overall answered questions about some of the challenges they see the region facing in the coming decades, how can we best prepare the region for these challenges and what should current public policy students be focusing on make the region even better.
