Furthering Medicine Through Research

As part of Stony Brook’s pediatric residency training program, each resident and fellow conducts a mentored research project. These projects were recently showcased for review by faculty, mentors, colleagues and peers during Stony Brook Children’s Sixth Annual Pediatric Research Day. The day gives trainees a chance to educate others and present their work in a supportive environment.

Trainees choose a research topic of interest to them and are connected to a mentor from the Stony Brook faculty who helps guide them throughout the project. Pursuing research at this level heightens the education process by helping trainees attain the skills needed to understand and evaluate research in their future practices, and is one of the ways their Stony Brook medical education helps to set them apart.
