2004 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient
Doros Platika, MD graduated from Stony Brook’s School of Medicine in 1980 and serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse (PLSG) is a public/private partnership founded through the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Health System, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and its regional foundation community. Together with private industry and advanced research and healthcare capabilities of its institutional partners, PLSG invests in and supports the growth of regional life sciences companies in the areas of bioinformatics; biotechnology; diagnostics; medical devices; medical robotics; therapeutics; and tools and services. These companies are focused in the following sectors: drug discovery tools and targets, biomedical devices, tissue engineering and neurological/psychiatric strategy companies.
In addition to founding several innovative companies, Dr. Platika has held a number of academic appointments at Harvard Medical School and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University. He has been the recipient of many academic awards and honors and has held numerous board directorships that range from the Dean’s Council for International Development at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard university to Target Autism Genome Foundation and the Boston French Symphony Orchestra. He is a member of MENSA the United States Chess Federation and the New York Academy of Sciences to name a few of his association memberships.
Dr. Platika has over 100 publications, book chapters, presentations, and abstracts. He has chaired and organized numerous biomedical seminars and conferences and presented grand rounds at over 50 leading medical institutions in the United States and Europe. He was born in Bucharest, Romania.
