Co-Director of Stony Brook Heart Institute Elected to Association of University Cardiologists

Javed Butler, MD, MPH, Chief of Cardiology and Co-Director of the Stony Brook University Heart Institute, has been elected as a member of the Association of University Cardiologists (AUC).

September 29, 2015 – Javed Butler, MD, MPH, Chief of Cardiology and Co-Director of the Stony Brook University Heart Institute, has been elected as a member of the Association of University Cardiologists (AUC).

Founded in 1961, the AUC is limited to only 125 active academic cardiologists who represent the leaders, innovators, and best national researchers in the field of cardiology. Dr. Butler will be officially installed as an AUC member in January 2016 at its 55th annual meeting.

Dr. Butler came to Stony Brook in 2014 and is a nationally recognized researcher and clinician specializing in heart failure. He is currently involved with research under six National Institute of Health grants and is also Deputy Chief Science Advisor to the American Heart Association (AHA). His work has garnered over 50 sponsored clinical trials for new interventions for patients diagnosed with heart failure. “I feel very humbled that I was chosen to join this prestigious group of American investigative leaders in cardiology,” said Dr. Butler. “I hope to participate and contribute positively to the research and educational missions of the AUC.”

Dr. Butler, a Fellow of the AHA, is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Time, Feeling, and Focus Award from the AHA for his contributions to the field of cardiology, and the Simon Dack Award from the American College of Cardiology.
