Nearly 50 alumni from the class of 1969  returned to campus to celebrate their 50th Reunion with a weekend of festivities on Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1.

The weekend began on Friday evening with a reception at the Simons Center Cafe.  Attendees, many of whom had not seen each other since graduation, embraced each other and enjoyed a lovely evening on the outdoor patio,  reconnecting and reminiscing about their favorite memories. The class fondly recalled concerts from Simon and Garfunkel and Janis Joplin, “Mood” Dances in G lobby, the blackout and, of course, the lifelong friendships formed.

The alumni kicked off their Saturday with a relaxing breakfast at Sunwood Estate, where President Stanley welcomed the Class of 1969.  Attendees enjoyed beautiful views of the Long Island Sound from the outdoor patio and had the opportunity to view artwork created by current Stony Brook Students. Attendees then made their way back to campus, where they had the opportunity to visit University’s archives and pick up their favorite Stony Brook gear at Shop Red West before enjoying lunch.

A special Reconnect and Reminisce luncheon was held in the Student Activities Center, Ballroom B where attendees had to opportunity to hear from Senior Vice President of University Advancement, Dexter Bailey, who spoke about 60 years of progress at Stony Brook University. The class was also joined by four current Stony Brook students who shared their experiences and helped to provide tours to members of the Class of 1969 after lunch.

The weekend celebration ended with the Brook Heritage Society Reunion Dinner in the Center for Leadership and Service (formerly H-Quad cafeteria), where 26 members from the Class of 1969 were inducted in the Brook Heritage Society – a Stony Brook University tradition for alumni celebrating their 50th reunion.
