Dr. Marianna Savoca, director of the Career Center, talked with Newsday recently about how alumni should negotiate their salary and benefits in their first job.

“Don’t negotiate anything before a job offer is made and don’t think an employer has an obligation to give you everything you need,” Savoca told the paper, adding that “you want to know your value and benchmark your salary and benefits.”

The article  gave three pointers on how to conduct salary negotiations: be confident, consider the entire benefits package when negotiating and don’t sabotage yourself by being impatient.
